The term structured literacy refers to a scientific and comprehensive understanding of how literacy develops. Comprehensive literacy instruction includes explicit and responsive instruction for all students.  This includes instruction of fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, phonemic awareness, and phonics with a focus on the interrelationship between decoding and encoding. Our instruction can help our students become efficient readers-writers and encourage their love of literacy.

This session is designed for classroom teachers and educators who support literacy instruction.  It will provide you with resources and activities that can be used universally with all students, based on their skill level and individual needs.  Throughout the day there will be specific practical instructional recommendations for students from EY to SY.   Explicit instruction of foundational literacy skills will benefit all learners, and is essential for those with severe reading difficulties.
